Biography

Joseph D. Heyne, M.D., is a surgical oncologist specializing in benign and malignant diseases of the breast. He joined Texas Health Care in 2009 from the Komen/UT Southwestern Breast Fellowship Program in Dallas. A Southlake native, he received an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Dallas and his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston and residency at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Dr. Heyne is board-certified in General Surgery.

“I became a physician to combat human suffering with my head and my hands,” says Dr. Heyne, who followed in his parents’ footsteps in the medical field. “Surgery allows me to effect healing in a very tangible way.” Dr. Heyne decided to pursue a career in breast surgical oncology after training for several months at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. “As the most common female malignancy, breast cancer has little respect for age, race or socioeconomic status. My goal is to give women and men the upper hand in fighting this disease.”

Outside of his practice, Dr. Heyne enjoys art, literature and classical guitar. He relishes attending large family gatherings with his wife and three children.
